Removing the backplane

Prerequisites

  • CAUTION: To prevent damage to the drives and backplane, remove the drives from the system before removing the backplane.
  • CAUTION: Note the number of each drive and temporarily label them before you remove the drive so that you can reinstall them in the same location.
  • NOTE: The procedure to remove the backplane is similar for all backplane configurations.
  1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
  2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system .
  3. If applicable, remove the backplane cover. For more information, see Removing the backplane cover .
  4. Remove all the drives. For more information, see Removing a drive carrier .
  5. Disconnect the VGA cable from the system board.
  6. If installed, disconnect the optical drive signal and power cables from the drive.

Steps

  1. Lift the cable guiding latch up.
  2. Press the blue release tabs and lift the backplane to disengage the backplane from the hooks on the system.
    1. Remove the backplane power cable, the I2C cable and the SAS. SATA or NVMe cables
